SILIKAL® R 17 E reaction resin mortar has been successfully approved by the Eisenbahn-Bundesamts (EBA - German Federal Railway Authority) for use as grouting mortar for bridge bearings in accordance with guideline 804.5101. This approval marks a significant milestone for our Methylmethacrylate (MMA)-based product, which has been specially optimized for grouting work such as joints and bearing bases on railway bridges.
Dr. Peter Loh, our Head of Research & Development, oversaw the approval process over several years. He explains: "We are delighted with the recent approval, which now allows companies in the railway infrastructure sector to use our product as grouting mortar for bearing replacements and other grouting work."
As part of a research project, the suitability of SILIKAL® R 17 E as an alternative to concrete for bearing bases and grouting joints in railway bridges was investigated. SILIKAL® R 17 E impresses with its remarkably short curing time. "SILIKAL® R 17 E is ideal for replacing bridge bearings, which can significantly reduce track closure times," explains Dr. Loh.
Another advantage of SILIKAL® R 17 E is its excellent workability at low temperatures. "Even at outside temperatures around 5°C, our product still exhibits excellent flow properties."
With this approval, the EBA confirms that SILIKAL® R 17 E meets all technical and safety requirements for use in the German railway infrastructure.
