Processing can take place at temperatures down to -25 °C.

As already mentioned, the mortars from Silikal uses the reactive resin "methyl methacrylate" as a binder, as well as some important reactive components, and essentially sands of special grain sizes as an aggregate. This mortar with its exceptional properties was invented many years ago at Silikal and is still unique and unsurpassed today when it comes to repairing concrete surfaces or components, especially in difficult conditions. To date, no other comparable mortar achieves this extremely fast curing - even at low temperatures - as well as the outstanding material properties compared to mineral mortars.

Silikal mortar systems
Silikal mortar systems are suitable for extremely fast and highly resilient floor repairs without interrupting operations. Harder than concrete itself, liquid-tight and easy to use are just three of the many advantages of Silikal mortar systems. The reactive resin mortars are already proving themselves worldwide in road construction, traffic areas, industrial plants and many other areas.

Unique features
The high-quality Silikal mortar systems differ from other mortars as they can be installed very quickly, namely already after approx. 1 hour after completion of the work. This is achieved by the unique properties of the binder used, the Silikal reactive resins based on methyl methacrylate, which harden very quickly and almost independently of the temperature. These two most important advantages clearly set Silikal reactive resin mortar systems apart from other resin mortars (e.g. based on epoxy resins).
Repair of concrete with mortar
It is well known that mineral mortars are used to repair concrete. Cement is usually used as a binder for sand and possibly other aggregates, and the mixture sets hydraulically with water. If necessary, additives are added to improve certain properties of the concrete. Cementitious mortars can be used on wet substrates,
- but only harden above 0 ºC,
- require long setting times
- and have low flexibility and low resistance to wear and aggressive media.
It is astonishing how little it is known that concrete can also be renovated with mortars whose mineral aggregates are not bound by cement but by synthetic resins. Probably people do not trust synthetic resins with the properties of concrete, especially as far as compressive strength is concerned. The opposite is true, because synthetic resin-bonded mortars sometimes have much higher strengths than concrete itself and also surpass most of the other performance characteristics and properties of concrete.
Optimum adhesion with the Silikal mortar systems
The Silikal R17 mortar system consists of a filler component in a 15 kg bag and the corresponding hardener liquid in a 2 litre can. Both components are mixed to produce a pourable mass that is poured into the area to be repaired. For repairs on vertical or sloping surfaces, there is the mortar system SILIKAL® R 17 thix. Of course (as with all other repair materials), preparation of the substrate is necessary to achieve a perfect quality of the repair. For optimum adhesion, a primer coat of e.g. SILIKAL® R 52 or R 51 is required. For example, one standard set of SILIKAL® R 17 allows the restoration of an area of approx. 1 m² with a thickness of approx. 1 cm. SILIKAL® R 17 reactive resin mortar is also supplied in special grades.
Individual appearance of Silikal reaction resin mortars
SILIKAL® 17 reaction resin mortar is colored "concrete grey" as standard, but can be supplied in other colors if the appropriate quantities are ordered. SILIKAL® R 17 can also be used to create any layer thickness, in which case coarse to very coarse aggregates (gravel) can also be used. Surfaces made of SILIKAL® R 17 reaction resin mortar can also be overcoated to achieve a more attractive appearance. SILIKAL® R 17 has been tested and certified for various applications.
